Automotive Digital Transformation

Our client is the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer centered in the UK, with additional plants in China, Brazil and India. The largest investor in R&D in the UK manufacturing sector, they have invested £12 billion in the last five years. In fiscal 2017, they broke numerous company records to sell almost 585,000 vehicles (up 20% on the previous year) in 160 countries. Their ambition is to top a million in 2020, by which time all new vehicles will be electrified.

Our client needed to combine and collocate two new teams, each comprised of 40 staff – an engineering team and an IT/Technology team. Not only did they require 80 new staff to be sourced by August 2018, they also needed to have a location in which to place their new Digital Development Centre. The Digital Development Centre will be gathering the data that they receive in real time from all their vehicles to maintain and optimise the performance of their cars, and more generally to deliver digital solutions to them. Our client required their new location to be amongst other thriving tech companies in order to reap the benefits of the talent that pools around tech hubs naturally, given the greater opportunities for employment for graduates etc. They also wanted their location to be affordable, near high-caliber universities and logistically-connected to markets: all criteria which help to attract top-tier talent, particularly recent graduates.

RPI has gone above and beyond the expected service provided by a recruiting company: sourcing specialised office space for a client, for example, is unheard of. However, this ‘extra mile’ is typical of the service that RPI provides to all of our clients. It does not matter to us whether it is a small tech start-up or an MNC that has been established for decades: we will endeavour to continue to give our clients the highest standard of service in our industry.
