BT is trying to position itself as 'digital enabler' for British businesses attempting a digital transformation, announcing a wave of new and innovative services.
The telecoms giant has identified chief information officers (CIOs) as the individuals responsible for carrying digital transformation programmes.
'The Digital Possible' aims to empower CIOs "to better embrace ambitious digital transformation agendas for large organisations all over the world", BT said in a press release.
BT suggested it took the decision to target CIOs specifically after research revealed how they are becoming the main figure in the boardroom – 72% of IT decision makers said their role became more central in the boardroom in the past two years.
However, CIOs are finding themselves increasingly challenged to find the time to develop creative solutions for the business – 61% of the 1030 senior IT decision makers questioned feel that the CIO is spending more time maintaining current IT systems than searching for new solutions.
BT argues that if CIOs are going to succeed in becoming pioneers of change, they now require strategic partnerships within and beyond their organisation.
"We are well placed to be their digital enabler. Today, we are committing to accelerate investments in our Cloud of Clouds portfolio to help them fully uncover and realise their own 'Digital Possible'," said Luis Alvarez, CEO of Global Services.
As well as announcing a further expansion of cloud activity, BT said the new launches, which will arrive in the coming weeks and months, will cover all areas of the Global Services portfolio, including services in the cloud, mobility and collaboration, and data industries.
It says it will leverage its recent EE acquisition to offer UK and global mobility services, while also roll out new security and professional services capabilities that will "[empower] CIOs to make the bold decisions required on their digital journey".
"The pace of digital change is creating new opportunities for our customers and those opportunities require quick responses. The role of the digital CIO is one of the most demanding in business. They need to be strategic, creative, growth-minded and cost conscious," Alvarez said.
