Etisalat wants to make free, high-speed and unlimited public Wi-Fi 'the norm', having made it available in more than 250 major public locations in the UAE, Gulf News reports.
'UAE Wi-Fi by Etisalat' allows residents to connect to the Internet using their mobile devices and takes the UAE one step closer to realising the country's 'smart' vision.
Etisalat customers with a mobile data allowance of at least 1GB can enjoy free access through the public Wi-Fi. Depending on the mobile data package, customers can expect a free allowance of anywhere between five hours and 30 hours.
Meanwhile, non-Etisalat subscribers can pay for unlimited data access at a cost of Dh25 for two days, and Dh100 for ten days. The paid-for packages begin from the first instance of access to the Wi-Fi package.
Khalid Al Khouly, Etisalat's chief consumer officer, said that free public Wi-Fi has been made possible thanks to the "forward thinking on the part of this country's visionary leaders".
"Keeping with their vision, Etisalat has laid out an excellent telecom infrastructure to enable connectivity for residents and businesses. We are taking it a step further and making free, high-speed and unlimited public Wi-Fi a norm, helping people stay connected more than ever before," he added.
Al Khouly insisted there will be no advertisement pop-ups to be seen when connected, making for a "seamless mobile experience" as users browse the Internet, use social messenger services or stream videos on 'UAE Wi-Fi by Etisalat'.
The service will be available at shopping malls, parks, beaches, entertainment and sports venues, airports and much more.
