SingTel has partnered with Akamai Technologies to offer cloud-based cyber security solutions to enterprises in the Asia Pacific region.
Singapore-based SingTel said that the partnership will increase companies' ability to deal with Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks and other malicious web attacks.
SingTel also said in the statement that the fostering of intelligence between the two companies will enable Akamai's globally distributed Intelligent Platform to deliver Akamai's solutions for an "enhanced customer experience."
DDoS attacks are committed by cyber criminals who furtively command unrelated computers in servers, often in different locations, to drain and overwhelm an enterprise's bandwidth.
This can overload the enterprise's servers, networks, infocommunications platforms and applications, which can severely affect its ability to carry out normal operations and lead to financial losses.
William Woo, SingTel's managing director of Enterprise Data and Managed Services, said that while technological advancements in e-commerce, cloud-based applications and Unified Communications allow enterprises to be more productive, they also expose them to more in the way of cyber attacks.
Woo pointed out that DDoS continues to be "one of the most prevalent and damaging cyber threats." He added, however, that the partnership with Akamai will safeguard customers' servers by pre-emptively scrutinising, detecting and blocking DDoS threats.
Enterprises will also be able to host their media libraries, software downloads or entire website in a network of servers worldwide through the Akamai Intelligent Platform, which SingTel says will aid faster delivery to users and provide added resilience and business continuity measures.
