Consultancies are increasingly being engaged earlier in the process to assist operators in major strategic planning in the technical and commercial areas and to help clients decide the best course of action for a major systems overhaul or outsourcing process.
Movements in the market mean that systems integrators are buying up smaller vendors of telecoms products to create one-stop solutions for operator clients, as well as attempting to move further into the network operations and network management space. Their traditional market in the implementation and integration of OSS, BSS and other IT products has become increasingly cramped as OSS/BSS and software vendors look to extend their revenue streams and offer implementation services as well as with competition from Asia.
